Heat & Hot Water

Poultry Sheds, Pilton

This project was to install biomass boilers to provide a renewable heating source for the poultry sheds. 3 x 199kw HDG compact 200 woodchip boilers were installed to heat 3 x 5000ltr heat stores which in turn supplies ceiling suspended space heaters within the 3 poultry sheds which are capable of holding 50,000 chickens each.

The first stage of this project was to install mapress stainless steel 54mm flow and return pipes in each shed and to connect up the space heaters.

All of the flow and return pipes had to run underground to the purpose built boiler house (picture on the right). The picture below on the left shows the transition fitting used when pipe work changed from Rehau pre-insulated underground plastic pipework to stainless steel.

Once the boilers and heat stores were in place we connected them up using the same stainless steel and press fit fittings as in the sheds. The picture on the far right hand side shows the thermal store and the 3 pictures to the left show the boilers (green), 300ltr expansion vessels (red), 5000ltr thermal store (grey) and all of the connecting pipework.

The system was then commissioned and is now fully functional.
